The Can

  • The CAN was first introduced to underground coal mines in Australia in the early 1990s by Burrell Mining. In October 2024 Burrell Mining sold to an Australian Small Business owner and was renamed Burrell Services Australia Pty Ltd. Burrell Services is located in Mackay, North Queensland.
  • The CAN is a yieldable secondary roof support cylinder. The CAN system is engineered to combine the superior load characteristics of concrete and steel.
  • The uniformly consistent core blend ensures each CAN delivers the same high load carrying performance.
  • The CAN cylinders with either a Steel or Fiberglass shell can be manufactured to the Underground Mines height requirements. Steel Cans are made in 760mm or 915mm diameter, fiberglass is generally 900mm diameter.
  • The CAN won’t warp, rot or shrink and can be manufactured to individual Mine specifications.
  • A roof support system that uses “Risk Management” principles
  • One Single CAN replaces the construction of tall timber supports.
